General Information
Proxies are acts by which someone voluntarily confers powers of representation to another person (s). Proxies may be drawn up in one of the following ways:

By public instrument drawn up at the Consulate, with the presence of the grantor (s) who must sign the act before the consular agent. A draft should be submitted specifying the powers to be conferred, as well as data of the prosecutor (name, place of birth, current residence and B.I. number or other identification document).

The grantor (s) not registered with the Consulate must present identification documents, such as Identity Card or current Passport.

Consular fee – USD $ 53.28;

By private instrument, drawn up by hand and signed by the grantor before the consular agent who will proceed to face-to-face recognition of his handwriting and signature. The grantor must be registered with the Consulate or submit updated identification documents.

Consular fee – USD $ 15.98;

By private instrument, typed by the grantor (s) and signed by the same (s) before the consular agent, who will recognize the signature (s).

Consular fee – USD $ 15.98;

This modality of power of attorney can be signed in the presence of Notary Public and sent to the Consulate for certification by Authentication Term, of the Notary’s signature;

Consular fee – USD $ 31.97 (1 participant); Plus $ 10.66 per additional player;

This modality of power of attorney may also be signed before a Notary Public and sent to the Consulate for legalization of the signature of the Notary. (Not always accepted in Portugal)

Consular Fee – USD $ 15.98

All power of attorney must be drawn up under number 1 or 2:

  • That they must be carried out by public deed or in another authentic way;
  • That confer general powers of civil administration or commercial management;
  • To contract foreign exchange obligations;
  • That involve confession, withdrawal or transaction in lawsuits.

Powers of Attorney by Mail

Grantors who can not appear in person at the Consulate must file their power of attorney under No.3 above, sending the document to the Consulate for legalization.

Consular fees

Payment to be made in cash or Money Order, to the order of “Consulate of Portugal”. Personal checks are not accepted.
